Beaches in Bali for the Coastal Charm

Located just minutes away from the International Airport, Kuta is undoubtedly the most famous spot in Bali. The white sandy shores provide a stunning view of the sunset, while the main beach road is lined with shops, hotels, clubs, restaurants, and markets. The beach is a haven for surfers and swimmers, and several surfing schools are available to ensure you experience the thrill, even if you're a beginner.

Located on the southwestern coast of Nusa Penida Island in Bali, Kelingking Beach is a secluded stretch of white sand bordered by cliffs. This a sparsely populated beach due to the 400 m steep downhill hike, which takes about 1 hour, and strong undercurrents make it less suitable for watersports. The beach is also not wheelchair accessible. A few restaurants, beach bars, and parking facilities are available at the top of the cliff.

Double Six Beach in Seminyak offers a chilled-out ambiance with golden-white sands and blue waters. This beach in Bali is lined with clubs and restaurants and is lively at night. Padang Padang, also known locally as Pantai Labuan Sait, is a white sandy beach on the Bukit peninsula. The beach is hidden and can only be reached through a hollow rock entrance. The long stretch of Padang Padang is ideal for sunbathing, while the blue waters and waves make it one of the main surfing beaches in Bali. Lined with cafes, beach bars, and shops, the beach gained fame in Julia Robert's Eat, Pray, Love.

One of the finer beaches in Bali, Seminyak offers some of the best villas, beach clubs, and resorts in Bali. Must-do activities here include sunbathing, surfing (for advanced surfers only), and horseback riding. Jalan Laksmana, or Eat Street, shopping streets like Jalan Raya Seminyak Street and the Seminyak Village Mall are located near the beach. Sanur Beach is Located east of Denpasar and is one of the best beaches in Bali. There are beachside shops, beach bars, and lounge restaurants offering local cuisines. Broken Beach is a secluded beach located beyond a spectacular coastal rock formation from which it gets its name. Located on the southwestern edge of Nusa Penida, the beach is identified by a rocky wall a few meters from the shore that cuts it off from the central sea but makes an arching gateway through which the water passes and creates a cove. The beach is locally called Pasih Uug.

Diamond Beach is one of Nusa Penida’s multiple “cliff beaches”, with striking white sand and turquoise water. It is named after pointy, diamond-shaped rocks on the beach. It is famous for the viewpoint where you can take photos with a thatched nest with stunning views. The beach is reachable through a small trek.

Batu Bolong Beach is a black-grey sandy beach located in Canggu. A favorite of surfers with its slow and easy waves, this beach in Bali has instructors and surf shops to welcome all levels of surfers. Sunbathing and swimming are other popular activities. Batu Bolong Beach has several clubs, cafes, and dining spots that serve local Balinese and continental dishes and drinks. Nestled in the southern corner of Bali, Pandawa Beach, also called 'the secret beach,' is a 1 km stretch flanked by hills on either side. The beach was inaccessible until recently but can now be reached via the newly carved entrance through motorcycles. Atuh Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Bali, located on the southeastern coast of Nusa Penida. It is accessible through a 30-minute trek over rough terrain. The beach is dotted with four rocky islets in an arch-like formation. During low tide, marine life and reefs can be spotted. Swimming is not allowed, and watching the sunrise and sunbathing are popular activities. A few bean bags, swings, lounges, and parking facilities are available.

Also known as the 'Secret Beach' due to its remote location, it is ideal for snorkeling early in the morning while the warungs serve some delicious grilled fish. Melasti is a recently discovered beach in Bali located in Ungasan. It is sparingly crowded and offers a more secluded and softer beach experience, but there are a few beach bars and shops. Flanked by limestone cliffs, the white sands and clear blue waters are ideal for swimming and sunbathing. During low tide, small pools are formed between rocks with starfish and other aquatic life. Located about 20 kms south of Kuta, Balangan Beach is one the most scenic beaches in Bali, famous for its golden sands and surfable blue waves. The hill from where the beach descends offers a panoramic view, and the waves are ideal for surfing and swimming, as well as several surf shops and schools. The beach is lined with warungs and beach bars. Beach beds and umbrellas can be rented and paid parking, and washrooms are available.

Lovina is a laidback, black-sand beach in Bali. There are a few beach bars, restaurants, and gift shops. The exquisite beach consists of seven small villages along its 10-kilometre stretch. Dreamland Beach, also known as New Kuta Beach, is a secluded beach in Bali on the southern Bukit Peninsula and a favorite among surfers. Nyang Nyang Beach is a 1.5-kilometre crystal white sand beach in Bali, along the Uluwatu Pecatu region. The graffiti-bearing shipwrecks and turquoise waters make it an ideal spot for sunbathing and swimming. Located about half a kilometer from the famous Uluwatu temple, Nyang Nyang Beach is about a 15 to 20-minute trek from its parking spot or a moped ride. There are a few eateries and toilets at the top, but not near the beach

Pasir Putih is located between two villages, Bugbug and Parasi, in the Karangasem regency. The unique white-and-black sand and clear blue waters are fantastic for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. Gear rentals and guides are provided by the many refreshment stalls and cafes scattered at this beach in Bali, which serve various drinks and snacks. Grilled seafood is also available and is best enjoyed in the beautiful dusky evenings over a cold soft drink.

Green Bowl Beach is another hidden beach in Bali, located about 75 m below a cliff in Ungasan. Snorkeling and paddling across the reef barrier during a low tide are popular activities. The entire beach is flooded to the cliff's face at high tide. Green Bowl Beach also features two large caves made of limestone, which provide shade. There are four warungs, parking, and toilet facilities available at the top

Situated in Labuan Sait, close to Uluwatu and Padang Padang, Suluban is a beautiful beach in Bali with limestone formations, rocky openings, and mini pools. The beach is accessible only through a narrow and steep pathway. The waves are about 3-12 feet, making it an ideal spot for surfing for surfers of all levels. There are a few beach bars and parking facilities available at the top. The beach is not suitable for swimming.

Located in Kerobokan in Bali, Batu Belig Beach offers the best of both worlds- a multitude of bars and restaurants without the overcrowding of commercialized beaches of Bali. A hotspot for surfing, the beach provides a stunning sunset view and is ideal for kite-flying and sunbathing.  There are a few beach beds, umbrellas for rent, and free parking available. The beach is also pet-friendly.

One of many surfing spots in Canggu, Berawa Beach is closest to Seminyak, is relatively quieter, and has the largest lagoon along the Canggu coastline. The black sand beach offers sunbeds and parasols for afternoon sunbathing, although the waves are too strong to swim. Pererenan Beach in Canggu is a surfer's paradise. This beach in Bali offers rough, crashing waves for the advanced surfer but isn't suitable for swimming, especially for beginners. The black sand glimmers in the sun, and this beach in Bali is ideal for witnessing a gorgeous sunset. A welcome relief from the crowded Kuta Beach and Seminyak, Mengiat Beach offers a quieter and more laid-back attitude. Away from the crowds of surfers queueing up to drop in on the stellar waves, Mengiat is the perfect beach to find a haven of paradise-like white sand and soft waves.
