Best Beaches In Mauritius For A Perfect Vacation

Located on the east coast, Belle Mare is one of the best beaches in Mauritius. White powdery sand, azure waters, and luxury resorts line up on this 10 km long beach. You could enjoy water sports on this beach or stay in high-end luxury resorts and enjoy the spa or play golf on one of the many golf courses.

The Flic en Flac beach attracts water enthusiasts as it is one of the best dive sites in Mauritius. The beach is home to a beautiful lagoon protected on all sides by coral reefs, and this is one of the best places to go for a swim. Lining the entire stretch of the beach are local eateries and food stalls selling hotdogs, kebabs, and other local dishes. 

The Grand Baie Beach is one of the shortest beaches in the North Bay of Mauritius. It is popular for water sports like kitesurfing, scuba diving, big game fishing, and Catamaran Dolphin Cruise. There are some excellent restaurants and cafes near the Grand Baie beach, one of them being the Cafe de la Parge. Savour some freshly grilled lobster here. However, this beach remains densely crowded most of the time.

With Le Morne Mountain in the background, Le Morne beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius. It is a 4 km long stretch which is famous for watersports such as kitesurfing, windsurfing, scuba diving and snorkelling. The 'One Eye' point at Le Morne Point is one of the best kitesurfing spots worldwide. There are some food stalls on the beach.

The La Cuvette beach is close to the famous tourist town of Grand Baie. The absence of coral reefs coupled with its clear water makes it a popular beach in Mauritius. It offers watersports such as undersea scooter rides, underwater sea walks, deep-sea diving, as well as a submarine excursion. The beach is also good for swimming.

Tamarin Beach is one of the most impressive beaches in Mauritius. The interesting mix of verdant hues, turquoise water and powdery soft sand makes this beach perfect for relaxation and sunbathing. Tamarin Beach is also a surfers’ paradise and is reputed as the best beach in Mauritius for surfing and bodyboarding. Its two main surfing points are Black Stone and Dal. This beach is also popular for dolphin tours organised here.

Blue Bay beach is known for stunning coral reefs and crystal clear water. It is a ten-minute drive away from the airport in southeast Mauritius. There are some excursions available from this beach, which include underwater glass bottom boat trips and snorkelling. Blue Bay is ideal for swimming and relaxing. It is also popular for Blue Bay Marine Park located nearby.

Mont Choisy is 4km away from Grand Bay and is easily accessible by bus from Port Louis. It is a 3 km stretch of white sand with enthralling turquoise waters. Jogging, walking, aerobics and water-skiing are all available along the beach. However, other watersports are not available at this beach. It is mainly known for being less crowded and quiet.

Located to the northwest of Mauritius, Trou aux Biches is considered to be one of the best beaches in Mauritius due to its ideal conditions for swimming and snorkelling. The beach is 2 km long and is perfect for sunbathing as well. The Mauritian sunset view in the afternoon from this beach is breathtaking. 

Ile aux Cerfs Island, also known as “Deer Island”, is a private island located near the east coast of Mauritius. There aren’t any deer left here, but it remains a hugely popular tourist spot for its beautiful beaches, lagoons, and a wide variety of activities and facilities. The white-sand beaches and crystal clear waters are ideal for water activities like parasailing, diving, snorkelling, and underwater walking.

Gris Gris beach is located a few kilometres away from the village of Souillac. This is one of the beaches in Mauritius which offers a spectacular view from its cliffs. You can relax in a garden nearby and still view the beach, its waves and rock cliffs. The Roche Qui Pleure point of the beach is famous for the frequent strong waves that hit the rocks so much that it looks as if the cliffs are crying. Not an ideal place for swimming, it is best to enjoy the beauty of rock cliffs and splashes of water instead.

Located on the northern side of Mauritius, Pereybere is a family-friendly beach that's safe for swimming given that it's quite crowded most of the time. Apart from this, the beach is a hub for adventure sports like windsurfing and parasailing. You can also go kayaking or rent a catamaran, and go deep-sea fishing. 

Also known by the name – Jalsa Beach, the Poste Lafayette Beach is situated on the outskirts of a small northeastern Mauritian village of Poste Lafayette. About 500 metres from the popular Constance Prince Maurice resort, the Poste Lafayette Beach boasts a unique peaceful environment. The beach is very windy making it perfect for activities like kite surfing. 

Pointe aux Piments village in the western part of Mauritius is home to the Pointe aux Piments public beach. Located in the Pamplemousses district, it is one of the many beaches in Mauritius. Also known as the Le Meridien Beach, the Pointe aux Piments public beach is spread across an area of 3-4 kilometres. It starts from the Petite Pointe aux Piments close to the Le Meridien resort and Le Victoria resort and goes up to the Trou aux Biches through the Pointe aux Piments village.

Hidden away in an alcove, the beach of Saint Felix is regarded as a mystery among Mauritius’ many islands. This beach is split into two by the town of Morne, lending a quiet, intimate air to it. While swimming in the waters is not recommended due to strong offshore currents, one can opt to indulge in some deep-sea fishing and speed boat tours. The best time to visit St. Felix beach is early in the morning or late afternoon.

Surrounded by thousands of pebbles, the Riviere des Galets Beach is a must-visit among South Mauritian beaches. Its incredibly picturesque setting makes it a huge tourist attraction, especially for photographers and newly-weds looking for a photoshoot. A stark contrast to Mauritius’ other beaches, the Riviere des Galets is ideal for visiting during April-June.

Frequented by locals, the Anse La Raie Beach provides a holistic experience of the island nation. It is preferred by kite surfers and snorkelers, especially when the tide is high. A small Hindu temple is located close by. The easy availability of public amenities makes it an ideal place to come with kids.

Simply called the Tombeau Beach locally, the Baie Du Tombeau Beach is known for its unique yellow sand and sapphire shoreline. Dotted with large coconut and palm trees, it is quiet and unperturbed by tourists on weekdays. The south entrance provides a view of the harbour, ships and the quay. , so it is recommended you bring one's own refreshments.

Poudre D'or Beach is a rocky coastline located to the North-East of Mauritius in the village of Poudre D'or. What draws people to this attraction is the well-maintained shoreline and the scenic view of the Indian Ocean. The beach does not have a sandy stretch that gently recedes into the ocean. However, the waterfront, like ambience with tall, dense trees is equally charming.  Poudre D'or Beach can be an excellent spot for a picnic in Mauritius.
