Mauritius is home to a vast number of beaches scattered across the entirety of its perimeters and with such a vast array of beaches to choose from, picking the perfect beach that you want to spend a relaxing day at often becomes a hard chore. Ranging from powder soft white sand beaches fringed with rows of palm trees to coarse black sand beaches bordered by rocky cliffs and boulders, the vast variety of beaches in Mauritius is stunning. Out of all these beaches, one of the most well-renowned beaches on the eastern side of the island is the Belle Mare Plage beach.
Situated near the Belle Mare village in the eastern part of Mauritius, the Belle Mare Plage beach is very popular both with tourists and with locals alike and draws a considerable number of visitors all year round. This beach is one of the longest beaches on this side of the island, with the beach stretching from Palmar in the south to the Emeraude Hotel way up north. Belle Mare Plage beach stretches past quite a few luxurious hotels and resorts along the way, the most famous of them being the Lux Belle Mare resort, a luxury resort overlooking the vast expanse of the shimmering blue waters of the Belle Mare Lagoon. There are quite a few other well-known hotels and resorts located right on the beach too, and this has more to do with the geography of the area rather than its crowd-pulling ability. The Belle Mare Plage beach is surrounded by a very shallow lagoon, with coral reefs completely enclosing the lagoon off from the bay, thus resulting in calm, clear water that is extremely safe for swimming in, creating the ideal family beach for families with kids. The shallow bay also provides for a fantastic snorkelling experience, an activity for which the beach is extremely well known not only on the eastern side of the island but across the whole of Mauritius as well.
Due to the presence of these luxury resorts overlooking the beach, the place is more or less always crowded, but because the beach is exceptionally long, you will always find a secluded spot to sit down and relax in without being crowded by other tourists. There are plenty of snack vendors selling local snacks and beverages throughout the beach, with the concentration of eateries increasing a bit more towards the southern end of the beach. With the beach being such a huge tourist draw, some watersports adventure activities such as snorkelling, scuba diving, water skiing, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing are offered here.
Its soft white sand characterises the Belle Mare Plage beach, but tourists who have been to the beach say with conviction that the quality of the sand differs at different places along the beach, with the southern parts having softer sand than the northern regions, where the sand tends to be bit coarser.
