When you think about beaches in Mauritius, the first few things that come to your mind are probably sunny skies, gleaming stretches of unbroken sand, cool azure water, and hordes of tourists. While the first three certainly apply for every beach that can be found on the island, the fourth is necessarily not always the case. Of course, today, Mauritius is one of the most popular tropical tourist destinations of the world, and you will find tourists thronging every part of the island during any given time of the year. However, certain places in Mauritius are – as of yet – unbeknownst to most tourists. One such beach that should be on your Mauritius trip itinerary is the Mont Choisy beach.
Located on the north-western coast of Mauritius, the Mont Choisy beach is a haven for anyone who wants the sun-and-sea experience minus the inevitable crowds come flocking to all the big beaches on the island. If Mont Choisy beach could be described using one word, it would be ‘remote’ and serene to you; then the Mont Choisy beach can only be described using one word: remote. Despite being right next to one of the most commercialised cities of Mauritius – Grand Baie – the Mont Choisy beach is almost a deserted beach, lined by rows of trees along the coastline, and not a single hotel or restaurant in sight.
Powder white sand, glittering azure water, and hardly any people in sight for as far as your eyes can see – that’s Mont Choisy beach for you. Boasting of the same soft sand and clear water as the beach in Trou aux Biches, the Mont Choisy beach is all about the sun and sand – untouched tropical marine life in all its glory. The calm water makes it one of the best beaches for taking a swim or going on a long walk with nobody around you for miles.
The only catch here is that due to the absence of hotels and resorts around, there is hardly any scope for water sports or beach sports activities, but seeing as the Grand Baie beach is quite near, that shouldn’t stop you from visiting one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever have laid eyes upon. During the peak tourist season, you might find a few snack stands and mobile food vendors frequenting the beach, but during other times of the year, Mont Choisy remains undisturbed and free from the crowds that you will inevitably run into on visits to nearby beaches.
