Tiger Kingdom, Phuket Overview

A sister operation of Tiger Kingdom Chiang Mai, Tiger Kingdom Phuket opened on July 2013 and is only 15 mins away from Patong Beach. It is located next to the Go-Kart track in Kathu at the foot of Patong Hill. Tiger kingdom is not a standard zoo; it specializes in big cats and is the world’s leading facility in encounters with this majestic animal. Here you will find Indochinese tigers of varying sizes and ages.

The Tiger Kingdom intends to educate the visitors about Tigers and focuses on captive tiger veterinary and husbandry research. It is a comfortable haven for these wild creatures but has often come under fire for depriving these animals of their natural habitat, which makes many of them unhappy. You can touch tigers of various sizes, depending on your age and height.

You can also buy photos with the tiger from the professional photographers here, or take pictures as you pose with them.
Each animal encounter lasts around 10 minutes with your chosen Tiger. These Animal Encounters are not suitable for people who need wheelchair assistance or walking aids, as participants must be fit enough to squat or kneel and stand up quickly without support.

Pros and Cons of the KIngdom

Pros
The Kingdom ensures overall care and security for the Tiger.
Before you enter the enclosure where the Tigers are kept, you have to wash and sanitize your hands and read a book full of rules to follow safety measures.

Cons
These animals are bred in captivity; hence, even if they were released in the wild, they wouldn’t be able to survive.
The cubs are friendlier, but not all the big cats are happy to be disturbed and may merely be dozing off.

Source
  • 9:00 AM is the best time to go to the Tiger Kingdom, as it now that the tigers are all up and energetic. The closer to evening you go, the more lethargic or irritable you’ll find them, as their feeding time is around 7:00 PM.
  • Carry your camera and click pictures with the tigers, if you don’t want to pay an additional price for the photos.
  • If you do decide to splurge the extra THB 500 on photos, you will get 50 professional images of your visit and will be able to remember all the significant moments. Remember to leave your email id with them for the same.
  • Tigers do not remain still for too long, so don’t waste precious time and click the pictures quickly.
  • Don’t use flash while taking pictures, as this may disturb the tigers. The Tiger Kingdom officials will also tell you the same.
  • Dress sensibly and wear shoes in which you can kneel and jump up, as you will be required to do these while interacting with the Tigers.
  • There is an à la carte restaurant called Bengal Restaurant on the premise that serves a range of Thai and western food. If you get hungry, head here.
  • There is a gift shop near the lobby. Be it a cuddly toy for your kid, a shot glass for yourself, or a keychain to gift someone; you can pick up the perfect souvenir from here to remember your visit.
  • Read the book of rules thoroughly and follow the dos and don’ts mentioned there. If you misbehave with the Tigers or do something foolish, you can end up getting hurt yourself.
  • The Tiger Kingdom is not suitable for those who aren’t physically fit, are held back by some health issue, or are differently-abled. Hence, don’t take an unnecessary risk if you are in any of the above categories, and avoid going here.
