Wildlife Sanctuaries in Goa for a Wild Time Out!

Bondla is one of the most popular wildlife sanctuaries in Goa. Even though it's a zoo, it makes for a typical reserve forest. It is the smallest wildlife sanctuary in Goa as compared to the rest. The sanctuary has activities and trails to indulge in. You can also experience an elephant ride in Bondla too. It is set against the backdrop of picturesque forest hills. If you want to make a halt and unwind for a bit the Bondla Sanctuary houses small eco-cottages. They are comfortable and a great home to rest amidst the wilderness.

Mollem National Park, the biggest one in the state, takes you on a fascinating wildlife adventure. Jeep safaris take the tourists right into the heart of the dense forest reserve, bringing them closer to the vibrant wildlife. Mollem National Park is another facet of Goa’s diverse bouquet of attractions. It is undoubtedly a must-visit destination for all nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. Touring the park during the monsoon season is a great leisure activity.

If you are eager to witness some unique species, head to Cotigao. You find Gazelles, Sloth Bears, Porcupines, and Panthers in abundance. The best time to visit the sanctuary would be at dawn when you get to witness the sunrise along with sightings of rare species. It is noted for its observation deck which is an area nestled in the foliage to witness the animals closely but still remain unnoticed. It makes for a great feature.

Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary is a protected natural habitat that expands over an area of about 40 square miles in the Western Ghats of India. The green zone consists of west-coast semi-evergreen, tropical-evergreen and moist deciduous forests that create a natural habitat for a wide variety of animals and birds. It is home to the Dhangar community and has temples built by the Kadamba Dynasty.

Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary is noted for housing endangered species. The Netravali falls make it a spot to visit. The sanctuary is a semi-evergreen forest region, pregnant with Flora and fauna. It is nestled in the Kali river basin forest. It is located in close proximity to Budbudyanchi Tali where you can take a holy dip. The natural surrounding and the unending beauty of the region is indescribable. Spot the giant squirrels, Slender Loris, and the Great Pied Hornbills at the Sanctuary.

Mhadei Wildlife is an evergreen forest with Savannah grasslands. The sanctuary is one of the 25 mega diversity hotspots of India. It is a magnificent forest region housing twin waterfall and Virdi Falls. Another major attraction of the forest is Vazra Sakla. Mhadei is the perfect sanctuary spot for your wildlife expeditions. The rich flora and fauna in the region include the endemic orchards and more than 250 bird and butterfly species. It makes for a great tourist attraction.

Named after a famous ornithologist, Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary houses the natural habitat along the River Mandovi. The sanctuary has paved walkways amidst the gorgeous estuarine mangroves that make bird watching a delightfully experience to observe the local and migratory bird species.
