Magnificent Museums in Malaysia

The most significant heritage landmark of Kuala Lumpur, National Textile Museum is situated in Merdeka Square and has some magnificent textile collections, accessories and classic apparel. The museum also exhibits the methodology and technology of textile manufacturing. Two storey building with four different galleries showcases elegant Mughal- Islamic heritage in architecture and textile artefacts.

The National Museum of Malaysia, popularly referred to as Muzium Negara, is located near the Southern tip of Lake Garden, past the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur. It presents a combination of ethnology and natural history, and unveils the culture and history of Malaysia. The display at Muzium Negara is an amalgamation of crafts, weapons, currency, tradition and culture. The three-story museum comprises of four exhibition galleries, each of which has a different theme. The two murals are renowned for their aesthetic appeal. The design of the National Museum of Malaysia is marked by carvings and aesthetics of traditional Malay Palace.

The Islamic Art Museum of Malaysia has an extensive collection of ancient Islamic artefacts and books from the Middle East, the birthplace of Islam. Located at the brink of Lake Gardens, this museum is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. Spanning 30,000 square meters, the Islamic Arts Museum is adorned with Islamic patterns and houses more than 7000 artefacts. The gallery is divided into 12 themes and has displays reflecting the theme

Petrosains is a fun and interactive science discovery centre spread over an area of 7000 square metres. Located on the fourth and fifth floor of Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, it is a perfect edutainment spot for a family getaway.

Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock is a complex of three restored houses showcasing the typical 19th-century Chinese-Malays (Baba-Nyonya) residence. The Chinese Palladian houses were converted into Peranakan Museum now known for their exquisite woodwork, porcelain and furniture.

Regarded as one of the oldest museums in Malaysia, Perak Museum is a small public museum that stands as a landmark to the city of Taiping. It was founded by Sir Hugh Low, the fourth British Resident of Perak in 1883. This athenaeum is stacked with a whooping 8474 displays out of which 5074 are cultural collections, 523 nature-based, and 2877 miscellaneous collections.

Set in two old army buildings, the Port Dickson Army Museum is entirely dedicated to Malaysian army artefacts. Also known as Muzium Tentera Darat, it houses 9 galleries along with outdoor exhibits tracing the army from the 16th century Melaka Sultanate to the British era.

Established by Charles Brooke the Second Rajah in 1860, Sarawak Natural History Museum pays homage to the great naturalist Alfred Russell Wallace. Open daily, it is the oldest museum in Borneo. There are two floors displaying specimens of Sarawak fauna like reptiles, mammals, birds, ethnographic artefacts of the indigenous people, musical instruments and handicrafts.

Open daily, the Rainforest Discovery Centre offers engaging activities in the tropical flora and fauna of Sabah Rainforest. Outside the exhibit hall, a botanical garden presents samples of tropical plants. Walk the gentle 1km lakeside trail, a series of eight canopy towers connected by walkways to give you a bird's-eye view. Admission costs 30 RM.
