Initially, this festival spanned across 10 days. However, the previous festivals were shortened to a period of 5 days and are now called the Mosaic Music series. Since the year 2005 to 2014, the Mosaic festival showcased genres ranging from indie-folk to hip-hop. In 2007’s grand fiesta, this festival attracted more than 90,000 music lovers as compared to the first year’s 60,000 gathering. Featuring over a hundred performances, this festival had more than 60% of its performances free for its audience. This was also projected towards connecting the listeners to their favourite musicians on a deeper level and to inspire new and upcoming artists in Singapore’s music community.
The celebrations are only exceeding its standard. The Mosaic team has been expanding its jazz and world-music genres and including folk, rock and experimental categories so they can reach a broader audience. The venue of this festival, the Esplanade-Theatres on the Bay, also provides opportunities for the audiences to meet and greet their favourite music artists, including dinners and brunches with them. People of all ages attend this festival, and the Mosaic team takes pride in their older crowd.
In its first year, a soul and jazz-themed event drew a significant number of older audiences. The new additions in their genres are folk, indie-folk, Afrobeat, Soka, Pop and R&B. These diverse genres are sure to amaze all age-groups and ethnicities. The events are hosted both indoors and outdoors. The music festival also started a new feature in the music festival-tradition of Singapore called the 11th hour. This means that the performances will continue and go on to be staged late, even at an hour before midnight. First-of-its-kind, these performances are said to throw a "regular schedule out of whack" and is aimed to break the monotonous schedule of Singaporeans.
