Abundance III Sculpture, Singapore Overview

A piece of awe-inspiring art, the wonderful Abundance III sculpture is a huge bronze ring which adds an unusual charm to Suntec City, Singapore. Constructed in 1995, this illusionistic ring was sculpted by Sun Yu-Li, the former Singaporean architect who had given up architecture in order to pursue his love for sculpting.

At first glance, the dynamic Abundance III appears to be a simple, bronze ring. However, the ideas responsible for its construction were extraordinary. The sizable ring appears to be of different sizes from different distances. From afar, this smooth ring looks huge and bold; you cannot help but feel like going near it and touching it. As you move closer, however, you see the ring shrink in size and become thinner. It becomes skewed. From up front, all you see is but a thin ring. The extraordinary skill of the sculptor to imitate three-dimensional appearances will make you ponder in awe at the creativity used in making this sculpture. According to Sun Yu-Li, the circular shape of the ring is a representation of infinity, since there is no beginning and no end in a circle.
