The Capitol Theatre is Singapore's monumental cinema and believed to be one of Singapore's finest theatres back in the days. It is the city's first venue that furnishes a glamorous entrance for red carpet events and provides direct ground level access to the theatre. It is situated in the mixed-use complex, in North Bridge Road. With around 900 seats, the Capitol theatre is the largest single-screen cinema in entire South-east Asia and the only dual-purpose theatre in the country. The theatre provides different food and beverage outlets where food enthusiasts can savour from restaurants such as the Four Seasons from London, Parisian tearoom Angelina and local cuisine like Balestier Bak Kut Teh.
It all began when Mirza Mohammed Ali, a Persian trader of the Namazie family intended to build a theatre in Singapore with the partnership of S.A.H Shirazee, an Indian Merchant and South African brothers named Joe and Julius from First National Pictures. All of them came together to construct the theatres and names it as Capitol Theatres LTD. Mirza became the company's chairman while Shirazee was the director, Joe was the managing director, and Julius chose to be a publicity manager.
