Initial DisappointmentThe Golden Chariot, which began operations in 2008, witnessed huge loss during its early days as a result of which, the Karnataka State Government temporarily suspended services.
Golden HighlightsStarting March 2020, the Golden Chariot train will cover tourist destinations in the states of Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. These include Mysuru, Bandipur, Halebid, Hampi, Chikmagalur and Goa among other destinations. The only luxury train operating in South India, the Golden Chariot comprises of 18 coaches, 44 guest rooms and a capacity to accommodate around 84 passengers on board.
What The Authorities Have To SayMinister of State for Railways, Mr Suresh Angadi said that the luxury train would encourage tourism in Karnataka and its sister southern states. Further, he has also asked the IRCTC and the KSTDC to scheduled departure dates of the Golden Chariot train to be suitable for everyone to plan a trip through the train.
