Karnataka Golden Chariot Train To Resume This March 2024

Indian Railways announced the previous Tuesday that operations of the super luxurious Golden Chariot train would resume from March 2020 onwards. As per the reports, this announcement has been made after Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IRCTC to promote and run the Golden Chariot train.

Reasons Behind This Decision

The decision is envisaged to boost tourism in the southern states of India while subsequently accomplishing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of linking the 15 tourism destinations across India.

Initial Disappointment

The Golden Chariot, which began operations in 2008, witnessed huge loss during its early days as a result of which, the Karnataka State Government temporarily suspended services.

Starting March 2020, the Golden Chariot train will cover tourist destinations in the states of Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. These include Mysuru, Bandipur, Halebid, Hampi, Chikmagalur and Goa among other destinations. The only luxury train operating in South India, the Golden Chariot comprises 18 coaches, 44 guest rooms and a capacity to accommodate around 84 passengers on board.

What The Authorities Have To Say

Minister of State for Railways, Mr Suresh Angadi said that the luxury train would encourage tourism in Karnataka and its sister southern states. Further, he has also asked the IRCTC and the KSTDC to schedule departure dates of the Golden Chariot train to be suitable for everyone to plan a trip through the train.
