Precautions

Though it might be exciting, rock climbing in Thailand can be dangerous if the right precautions are not taken. Take a look below to know what you need to check and keep in mind before you venture to climb.
  • After gearing up and tying the rope check yours and the belayer’s harness buckles. Adjust the harness’s leg loops if required for more comfort.
  • Check that the rope passes through both the waist and leg loops of the harness. Also, check if the knots on the cable are tied correctly as instructed.
  • Check the equipment to make sure that the life-line can support you along with the climbing gear. A safety line backup is good to have in case of a fall.
  • Wear a climbing helmet. The helmet protects the head in case of any head injuries.
  • Use a long rope that reaches the anchors and the lower routes. Tie a stopper knot at the end of the line to avoid falling off on the ground.
  • Pay attention to your lead climber if you are climbing in a group. Do not distract him.
  • It is also better to be insured in case of any accidents or emergencies.

Tips

  • For beginners, it is essential to understand the route on the mountain and listen to instructions carefully. At the same time, one should be aware of the physical fitness required to climb the varying types of routes and peaks. A bit of practice with indoor rock climbing does help.
  • It is best not to go climbing solo. Even if you are not hiring a guide, make sure to be accompanied while climbing.
  • While climbing does not force or push yourself. Take your time and go slow working your limbs and muscles.
  • Contribute to the local economy by using local guides or hiring gears and equipment, which, in turn, ensures the healthy functioning of the climbing economy.
  • Wear proper climbing shoes while you make way up the crag.
