Tokyo has a dense network of railway lines, roads and subways all operated by different companies, under private partnership. This may be of some inconvenience to tourists as each company has a different map for its own territory. Hence, it is advisable to download the Tokyo Subway Map available exclusively at http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/subwaymap in 8 different languages. Japanês most prominent railways line is the JR Yamanote Line, which connects many cities together, conveniently placing Tokyo at the centre. Prepaid IC cards are the preferred way to get around Tokyo, for every service accepts these cards, including cabs and buses. Only on days tourists consider using many subway lines to travel around Tokyo, an unlimited travel pass is advisable - Tokyo Free Kippu (JPY 1590) and Tokyo Metro 24-hour Ticket (JPY 600) are two options tourists may consider. The Japan Rail Pass and JR Tokyo Wide Pass are valid only on JR trains and the Tokyo Monorail. They cannot be used on subways or any other non-JR train.
