Day Trip to Hakone, Tokyo Overview
An onsen valley about ninety minutes from Shinjuku, usually done as a loop: switchback railway, cablecar, then a ropeway over the sulphur vents at Owakudani and a boat across Lake Ashi. The Hakone Free Pass covers the whole circuit. The ropeway suspends for gas or high wind fairly often, so check its status on the morning you travel.
