Literally translating to 'Deer's Watching Hole', Trou aux Biches, with its beachside hotels and classy restaurants bars is the most frequented tourist towns in Mauritius. It is also home to one of Mauritius's best beaches with the same name, which is also internationally acclaimed having won the World's Leading Beach Destination at the World Travel Awards of 2011.

Apart from the beach - the other attractions you can visit in Trou aux Biches are the Maheswarnath temple and the Trou aux Biches casino.

Built back in the 1800s, the Maheswarnath temple, located near Triolet, is one of the oldest temples on the island, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The other place you can visit is the Trou aux Biches casino, which is a favourite hangout spot for tourists and locals alike. With plenty of slot machines and other live games, this casino is one of the most-visited casinos in the entire country. 

Compared to other beaches in Mauritius, the Trou aux Biches beach is relatively much less crowded, even on the weekends, and is mostly frequented by locals of the town. Beach sports activities are also a big thing at this beach, and starting from fishing to beach volleyball, you will almost always find some activity or the other always going on here.

How To Reach Trou Aux Biches

If you are near Port Louis and want to get to either of the beaches mentioned above, you should consider driving up the A4 freeway, which will take you to the Trou aux Biches within a maximum of 30 minutes, which is a much better option than taking the M2 and reaching the Mont Choisy beach after spending 40 long minutes on the road.

Stretching for over two kilometres, the Trou aux Biches beach is one of the longest beaches with powder-soft sand coupled with crystal clean, serene turquoise waters. There are also numerous water sport activities like water skiing, snorkelling, scuba diving, parasailing and glass-bottom boat rides.  With plenty of hotels, resorts, restaurants and pubs right beside the coastline, the Trou aux Biches beach is one of the best places to spend an idle afternoon.
