₹ 6,064 onwards View Packages
During your travels in Oman, the best way to get around the country is by renting a car in Oman! Ideally, the best car to rent is a four-wheel-drive so you can cruise over the Sharqiya Sands and drive up the mountains of Jebel Akhdar. However, if you're not comfortable driving a four-wheeler, a saloon car is still sufficient to get around.

Documents Required When Renting A Car in Oman

1. Valid International Driving Permit
2. Proof of identification, like a passport

Although the driving age in Oman is 18, you have to be over 21, or in some cases 25 to rent a car. There are no rules concerning women about driving in Oman, as long as you are above the age limit and have your permit.

Omani Driving Rules

  • Speed limits are enforced here, so always stay within them. They are clearly indicated on the roads.
  • Driving is on the right side of the road here.
  • Do not drink and drive or carry alcohol in your car. Since Oman is a Muslim country, they have a zero-tolerance policy for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol. There are also checkpoints with the Omani Police. They may check your car because carrying alcohol in your car is illegal unless you have a specific license.
  • Always be aware of camels and goats that may be present on the roads.
  • It is also important to always check the weather before you go on your journey. It's advisable to not drive in a wadi or go to the mountain range when heavy rains are predicted, as the roads may be extremely slippery.
So there you go! Rent a car and cruise through Oman's beautiful wadis, mountains and roads. Experience the country as a local at your own pace. Happy driving!
