If you’re planning a vacation to Dubai and are clueless about kitesurfing, do not worry as we’ve got you covered!

Best Time for Kitesurfing in Dubai

Dubai is a significant destination for kitesurfing due to its ideal weather conditions. You require a strong 10+ knots wind for kitesurfing and Dubai is warm and sunny throughout the year, making it suitable for kitesurfing at all times. The best season is from December to March/April when the winter wind blows going up to 20 knots. During summers, there is a light and warm breeze, which is good but not the best condition for kitesurfing enthusiasts.

Equipment Needed For Kitesurfing in Dubai

  • Kite: The kite is the most basic and essential equipment without which the sport is incomplete. The right kite depends on wind strength. The different types include bow shape, delta, C-kite, hybrids and foil kite.
  • Board: A board is an area where you’ll stand and control the kite. Beginners should start with a bigger board that will reduce their chances of falling and prevent injury.
  • Harness: There are two types of harness- seat and waist. If you’re an absolute beginner who has no prior experience in water sports, go for a seat harness. You can upgrade to waist harness as it allows more movement.
  • Safety leash: Safety leash is especially recommended for beginners, and it is attached to your body. In case of strong winds, if the kite becomes uncontrollable, this will help to maintain your balance.
  • Helmet: Helmet is essential for any water sport. It prevents injury in case of an accident and should be worn properly.
  • Floatation Vest: Floatation vest protects you from drowning and also reduces the strength of the impact if you crash into the waves.
  • Lines: Lines are like ropes that ideally should be at least 2.5 times your body weight. A kitesurfer uses 4-5 lines in general for safety purposes. The length of the line helps to control the speed of the kite.
  • Wetsuit: Wetsuit is required if you’re kitesurfing in colder areas. The wetsuit will help your body to remain at an average temperature.

 Essential Kitesurfing Tips

(Source)
  • Do not try kitesurfing without proper training. For an extreme sport like this, going out in the water all by yourself with the kiteboard can be dangerous. Take an introductory lesson at least to understand the nuances of this sport and gain confidence.
  • While choosing the operator or instructor for your lesson, enquire well about them through locals or websites. Make sure the instructor is certified and has prior experience in coaching.
  • During your lesson, listen to the instructor well. Follow all the rules he/she gives and be cooperative. They are trained professionals, and they ensure a smooth and comfortable kitesurfing experience.
  • The cost given for the lessons is inclusive of all rental equipment. If you have some prior experience in kitesurfing and need some practice time, you can rent equipment from any licensed operator and hit the waves. In case you already have your equipment, then take permission to practice.
  • In general, a person requires 10-12 hours of training time to go kitesurfing alone. It depends on your learning speed and body control.
For any extreme sport, no matter how thrilling and exciting it may be, safety should be the priority. Get high on waves as you learn to control the kites in the ocean and experience kitesurfing in Dubai like never before.
