Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted this achievement by stating that- "record 2.8 km long freight train was successfully operated by the Railways. This experiment of connecting four rakes to run on the long train, named SheshNaag, was successful". He also added that this allows more goods to be sent from one place to another at a time.
Making Way for Freight Trains Now that regular operations of trains have been more or less suspended due to the pandemic, the Indian Railways are making efforts to run freight trains. This is being done majorly to save up on transportation time and minimize congestion of the rail route.
Our Union Minister Piyush Goyal too celebrated this achievement via a tweet. He wrote, "SheshNaag running on track: boosting freight transportation, railways has run 251 wagons with 4 trains combined together, totaling to 2.8 km, between Nagpur and Korba."
In Other NewsEarlier on June 30th, 2020, the Indian Railway Ministry had operated a 177-coach freight train named 'Super Anaconda Train'.
The ministry unfurled the news via a tweet: "Taking a big leap in reducing the transit time of freight trains, Bilaspur division of SECR broke yet another frontier by joining & running 3 loaded trains (more than 15000 tonnes) in 'Anaconda' formation through Bilaspur and Chakradharpur divisions."
The freight trains are helping transport types of equipment and double-stack containers reach various zones at the earliest possibility. It is helping India combat the COVID crisis.
