In a recent State Assembly session, Tourism Minister of
Kerala, Kadakampally Surendran, announced that various tourist destinations across Kerala would develop their infrastructure to include the differently-abled by 2021. Phase 1 of this initiative will cover nearly 120 tourist destinations across Kerala. Out of these, work for 98 identified locations is already complete, while the remaining locations are in progress.
Elaborating on the government’s plan of action, Surendran added that services like special toilets and parking facilities, wheelchair-accessible ramps, tactile walkways, crutches, walking sticks, folding walkers, special signages, audio guides, touchscreen kiosks and Braille brochures would be available. Further, special tour packages also would be included under this initiative by the Kerala Government.
Such an initiative is aimed to boost tourism by nearly 10 to 12 per cent in both the tourists’ footfall and the government’s earnings through tourism. Are you happy with this initiative? Drop your opinion about this decision in the comments below!
