Pantai Cenang, Langkawi Overview
Pantai Cenang is a 2-km stretch of fine, powdery sand on the south-western tip of Langkawi island, running contiguous with Pantai Tengah to its south. It is the island's most popular beach, lined with beachfront restaurants, bars and budget-to-boutique hotels. Underwater World Langkawi, an indoor aquarium, and the Zon Duty-Free Shopping Complex both sit on the strip. Parasailing, jet-skiing and other watersports operators work the shoreline, and a weekly evening market brings street food and craft stalls to the area after dark.
Pantai Cenang has been Langkawi's main tourist hub since the island's tax-free status began drawing visitors in 1987. The beach itself is used for parasailing, jet-skiing, banana boats and sunset-watching, while the road running behind it is packed with seafood restaurants, beach bars, guesthouses and resorts such as Casa del Mar. Underwater World Langkawi, a large indoor aquarium, and the neighbouring Zon Duty-Free Complex are the strip's anchor attractions, alongside the Laman Padi Rice Garden at its northern end. A weekly night market sets up stalls of local street food, snacks and handicrafts, and lifeguards patrol the beach because of a seasonal jellyfish-sting risk (roughly January-June).
