If you like your café's with a side of heritage and culture, this is the place for you. The Indian Coffee House chain of restaurants came to Calcutta in 1942, housed within Albert Hall in College Street. There are several other branches of the city, but the Coffee House at College Street should be first on your list. In the bygone era, Coffee House was the haunt of intellectuals, poets and writers and freedom movement activists. It was a regular place for people such as Satyajit Ray, Manna Dey, Amartya Sen, Mrinal Sen and Aparna Sen. Today, the décor and interiors reflect that time. One can call it shabby or worn out, but the charm of the yesteryears linger on. Their rates are still meagre, and the love locals have for this place makes sure that it's always busy.
