Known For : Rajmachi Fort Visapur Fort Bedsa caves
Khandala sits just below Lonavala on the Mumbai-Pune expressway and shares much of the same terrain. Tiger's Leap and Duke's Nose viewpoints are in the Khandala area, the Visapur and Lohagad fort treks are accessible from here and the Bedsa Buddhist caves nearby are less visited than the Karla caves but equally significant. It's generally treated as part of the Lonavala circuit rather than a standalone destination.

Panchgani in Satara district sits at 1,334 metres and is known for the Table Land, a large flat volcanic plateau that is one of the largest in Asia with views across the Krishna Valley. It's around 22 km from Satara and works as a day trip from Mahabaleshwar or Panchgani.
Tapola is a village at the edge of the Koyna backwaters 28 km from Mahabaleshwar. Boat safaris on the Shivsagar Lake to the Vasota Fort, accessible only by water and then a forest trek, are the main experience. Bhandardara in Ahmednagar district centres around the Arthur Lake reservoir and Wilson Dam on the Pravara River. The firefly season in June draws visitors specifically for the night-time forest experience. It's around 160 km from Mumbai and 120 km from Pune.

It's around 450 km from Mumbai, making it primarily a destination for travelers from Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar.

It works as a base for families combining a theme park visit with access to the Lonavala area at lower accommodation prices.
Most Maharashtra hill stations are accessible year-round, with monsoon between July and September being the most popular season for the Sahyadri destinations closest to Mumbai and Pune. The southern destinations around Satara and Sindhudurg are best between October and February. Chikhaldara and Toranmal in the north and east are most comfortable between October and March.
