Laneway Festival Singapore

Laneway Festival , Singapore Overview

St Jerome’s Laneway Festival is an indie music extravaganza held every year in the Meadow, Gardens by the Bay in Singapore’s Central Area. The festival is a haven for rock-n-roll, alternative, electronic, and indie enthusiasts – the grooving music event sets the stage for a toe-tapping, hip-swaying evening against the Singapore skyline. What started out as a small backyard music festival in Melbourne, Australia, has now grown to international heights, featuring artists like Sam Rui, Aurora, Gang of Youths, Tourist, Tycho, Mick Jenkins, and many more across nine cities spanning five countries.

Featuring a host of budding artists and international indie superstars alike, the Laneway Festival is one-of-a-kind – the ambience, entertainment lineup, and food options are unmatched in the country. Attended by more than ten thousand fans last year, Laneway is much-loved in the Lion City. While the 2019 festival was cancelled due to logistical reasons, it is set to come back in a bigger and better way in the years to come. Dates have not been announced yet, but eager fans are certain that the festival will be held in 2021, if not sooner.

Background of Laneway Festival

St Jerome's Laneway Festival is also known as Laneway Festival or simply Laneway. It was started back in 2005 in Caledonian Lane, Melbourne, Australia. Begun as an event for indie music, the festival grew to immense popularity, and soon it hit five other cities in Australia including Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Western Australia, and Fremantle. Also, it crossed the borders and reached Auckland and Singapore.

It was started by Danny Rogers and Jerome Borazio with a thought that the summers of Melbourne in 2005 would be different and better with amazing live music set up in a unique style. At first, St Jerome's Summer Series was introduced every afternoon on Sunday. Later on, Danny and Jerome included Brains, a Saturday night monthly. It was a residency for a much famous musical group by the name The Avalanches. Both of them convinced this electro - music group that they would remove the bins, close the lane and should stage a laneway party. This added several promotional materials, and that's how St Jerome’s Laneway Festival began. The first Laneway festival witnessed a crowd of around 1400 people.
