Trou d'Eau Douce is a fishing village on the east coast and the departure point for almost every boat trip to Ile aux Cerfs, which is a ten minute crossing from here. The lagoon is sheltered and shallow, so it is used for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking as much as for the boats. Staying here rather than on the island itself is the cheaper way to do the same day.

Trou d'Eau Douce Beach
The beaches are indeed the main attraction on Trou d'Eau Douce. There are plenty - Veranda Palme Beach, Belle Mare Beach, Ile Aux Cerf and La Palmeraie Boutique Beach. It provides a good starting point for trekking the Quatre Cocos district in the north. This place has a number of local eateries, mostly serving seafood. One could also take a ride on the turquoise lagoon that starts from Trou d'Eau Douce and stretches up to Blue Bay.
Chez Tino is one of the best restaurants in Trou d'Eau Douce, serving great cocktails and lip-smacking sea-food. Green Island Beach is also a good restaurant for seafood. Duck Laundry is one of the most popular Asian joints here. Le Café Des Arts is a multi-cuisine joint serving delicious European food. Being an island, Trou d'Eau Douce place has pleasant weather throughout the year. Still, if you want to travel when it is the warmest time of the year, you would visit this place during January and February. January, March and November are the busiest times of the year.
How to Reach Trou d'Eau Douce
Trou D’Eau Douce is located in the Flacq District of Mauritius, on the Eastern Coast. It is strategically located close to one of the most famous beaches of Mauritius. One can use the bus service at the SSR International Airport in Mauritius to reach Trou d’Eau Douce. One has to first take Route No. 198 from the airport that will drop them at Mahebourg Traffic Centre. From there Route No. 18 will take them to Boulet Rouge, the restaurant. Another bus, Route No. 55, will finally drop them at the village beginning of Trou d’Eau Douce.
There are alternative bus routes as well. One can replace the Route No. 198 with Route no. 9 from the Airport. Or One can take Route No. 198 and get down at Reduit (University of Mauritius), take a Route No. 15 from there to get down at Central Flacq and finally Route NO. 55 to reach the beginning of the village. These routes are available throughout the year, be it weekdays, weekends or public holidays. It takes approximately an hour to reach Trou d’Eau Douce from Mauritius. Though the bus journey is a bit slow and cumbersome, it is very convenient for travel.
