Petronas Twin towers, Kuala Lumpur Overview

The Petronas Twin Towers located in KLCC, Kuala Lumpur are twin skyscrapers with each tower standing 451.9 meters proud. The tallest twin towers in the world, the major attraction at Petronas Towers is the double-decker sky bridge, and the observation deck, which provides a magical aerial view of Kuala Lumpur.

The Petronas Twin Towers held the title of being the world’s tallest buildings until 2004 when Taipei 101 transcended over them. While the Petronas headquarters fully occupy Tower 1, Tower 2 is left open for a limited number of visitors per day. T

The double-decker sky bridge which joins the 41st and 42nd floors of the two towers is about 170 meters above the ground level while the observation deck is located yet higher on the 86th level. The Petronas Twin Towers is also home to Dewan Filharmonik Petronas concert hall, Southeast Asia's leading venue for classical music.

Attractions at Petronas Towers

Sky Bridge
The sky bridge at Petronas Twin Towers is the world’s highest two-storey bridge sitting between the two towers 170 meters above the ground. The bridge joins the 41st and 42nd floors of the two towers, which not only acts as a podium where one can change elevators to reach higher levels, but can also be used as a safe evacuation route in cases of emergency. The 42nd floor of the tower can, however, be accessed only by the registered tenants and workers leaving only the 41st floor open for visitors. The bridge is open for one and all, however, it is limited to only 1000 visitors per day.

Observation Deck
The Observation deck is located on the 86th level of Tower 2. Tower 1 is not open to visitors and is occupied by the Petronas company headquarters. The observation deck is at a height of 370 meters from the ground and offers a breathtaking 360-degree aerial view of the city. The observatory also has miniature models of the Petronas Towers and the city of Kuala Lumpur. Each group is allowed 20 minutes to admire the view and to take loads of fun pictures.

Architecture of Petronas Twin Towers

The Petronas Towers designed by Cesar Pelli is one of the largest cultural and architectural icons in Asia. This superstructure is a reflection of the dominant Islamic culture in Malaysia. Rub el Hizb, an important symbol which is a part of many important Islamic structures, was used to generate the plan of the building. To add to the glamour, Pelli decided to use a ‘scalloped’ pattern throughout the outer surfaces of the two towers which indeed gave it a more elegant and delicate appearance which is one of the key features of most Islamic motifs.

The Petronas Towers stand about 452 meters tall with a skybridge connecting the two towers on the 41st and 42nd floors. The towers are built with high strength reinforced concrete to reduce structural strain and vibrations due to high winds. Just beneath lies the magnificent KLCC Suria Mall and the Petronas Philharmonic Hall.

How to Reach Petronas Towers

Take an LRT to the KLCC LRT Station which is directly connected to the KLCC Suria Mall, which is just beneath the Petronas Towers.
Taking a cab is always a convenient option and it can drop you off directly at the main entrance of KLCC Suria.
For the ones who prefer to drive to the location on their own, there are plenty of parking slots (KLCC Parking Bay) which is directly connected to the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH).
