Millennium Monument, Putrajaya, Putrajaya Overview

The second National Monument to be built in Putrajaya, the 68 meter tall Millennium Monument is located on a 25 hectare park in Precinct 2. It looks like a huge pencil from standing from a distance and on viewing it from above, it looks like a hibiscus flower

The monument is a must-visit for tourists travelling to Putrajaya because it is significant to the nation, for architects who will be stunned by it's structure and designing and for history buffs who can satisfy themselves with the historical information and illustrations on various panels of the monument.

Design and Structure of Millennium Monument

The monument which is similar in appearance to the Washington Monument in Washington DC, shaped like an obelisk with engravings marking important milestones in the history of the nation was opened in August 2005 for the public.
There is a multi level platform around the base of the column where tourists can walk up to enter the obelisk.
One can go through the beautiful series of engraved glass panels on the way and learn some key events relevant to the history of Malaysia in chronological order.
Another worth admiring feature about it is the time capsule on the base of the monument concealing a message from the former PM, Tun Dr Mahathi bin Mohammad.
Photographers also love to visit the monument to take perfect snaps of the elegant bridges of Putrajaya or the fireworks happening on some holidays or the way the lights sweep from the monument to guide the cruise boats.

How to Reach Millennium Monument Putrajaya

One can reach the monument by taking the Putrajaya Passenger Cruise boat which will stop here as it tours around the Putrajaya lake. The departure venue is Putra Jetty, near Dataran Putra.
