Menara Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur Overview

Menara KL, or Kuala Lumpur Tower, located within the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, is the tallest telecommunications tower in South East Asia and the 7th tallest in the world. The thrilling 360-degree view of this metropolitan city and the Kuala Lumpur skyline from the tower is the main attraction. The KL Tower is also popular for the revolving restaurant it houses, which offers dining with mind-stirring panoramic views.

The gleaming Kuala Lumpur landmark, which is the highest viewpoint in the city, also acts as the Islamic falak observatory which is used to observe the moon during the holy month of Ramadan. The architecture of this grand building is reflective of the Islamic style Arabic scripts, intricate Islamic tiles, floral and abtract patterns. Designed by the architect Kumpulan Senireka Sdn. Bhd., the construction of this superstructure took place in three phases over a span of 5 years. This 421 metre tall tower was officially inaugurated on 1 October 1996 and has been utilized for broadcasting purposes ever since.

: The entire tower is lit up, all the way from the ground floor to the top of the antenna mast, with LED lights. This is a unique and highly energy efficient way using which this magnificent tower is made to look even more mystical and stunning with lights which reach as far as 10 km away. To add up to the beauty, the lights at the tower head give out a sparkly look and can be seen even from the Genting Highland.

Architecture of Menara Kuala Lumpur

  • The base design of Menara KL was meant to symbolize the human journey for perfection in life.
  • The prominent globular pinnacle of the tower has its inspirations rooted to a Malaysian spinning top.
  • The main lobby of the upper ground floor has ornamental glass domes which emit diamond like sparkle giving it a posh interior.
  • To pay homage to the traditional Islamic and Persian architecture and to display its Islamic roots, Muqarnas- a type of corbel has been used as the main decorative element.
  • The roof of the pod is at 355 metres and after the placement, the overall height increases to 421 metres.

How to Reach KL Towers
