Ground Zero Monument (Kuta), Bali Overview
The Ground Zero Monument, officially known as Monumen Tragedi Kemanusiaan, stands on Jalan Legian in Kuta at the site of the former Paddy's Pub, one of two nightclubs targeted in the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people. Dedicated on 12 October 2004, the second anniversary of the attack, the memorial is built of carved stone and centers on a marble plaque inscribed with the names and nationalities of the victims. National flags of their home countries surround the site, which is illuminated at night.
The Ground Zero Monument (Monumen Tragedi Kemanusiaan) marks the site of Paddy's Pub on Jalan Legian, Kuta, one of two nightclubs destroyed in the 2002 Bali bombings, which killed 202 people, most of them Australian. Indonesian and Australian officials, along with Balinese Hindu clergy, dedicated the memorial on 12 October 2004, the second anniversary of the attack. It is built of intricately carved stone topped with a Balinese motif, centered on a large marble plaque inscribed with the names and nationalities of those killed and flanked by the victims' national flags. The site, opposite where the Sari Club once stood, is well maintained and illuminated at night.
