Bali Sea Turtle Society (BSTS)

Bali Sea Turtle Society (BSTS), Bali Overview

The Bali Sea Turtle Society is a non-profit organization that works for the conservation of sea turtles in Bali. Visitors can pay a small fee for the release of a turtle back into the sea, doing their bit to be mindful of Bali's environmental concerns. Mainly operating out of Kuta beach, the best time to visit is from April to October.

The Bali Sea Turtle Society is one of the more responsible turtle hatcheries and conservation groups in Bali. It works along with the local community, training them to protect sea turtles through ‘Community Based Conservation’ programs. The Bali Sea Turtle Society was founded in 2001 and aims to raise public awareness regarding the protection of the endangered sea turtles and their habitat. The conservation group also runs several campaigns against the illegal trade of Olive Ridley turtles.

Things to Do

The Bali Sea Turtle Society has garnered loving affection for their work and efforts, especially among the tourists who often visit the beach to participate in the turtle release sessions. You’ll have to wait in a long queue to collect a number that will secure your spot at the release. All volunteer work is welcome by the Bali Sea Turtle Society. Since the releases can be held only after the eggs hatch, there is no fixed schedule for the turtle releases. You can contact them a day prior to inquire about any releases planned for the following day.
