Dubai Desert Classic - A Guide to Dubai's Top Golfing Tournament

The Omega Dubai Desert Classic is a European Tour golf tournament held at the Emirates Golf Club, in Dubai. This annual event is among the highly anticipated golfing events in the world, attracting the greatest golfers and golfing enthusiasts. Golfing legends such as Tiger Woods, Rory Mcllroy and Ernie Els have won the previous titles in this tournament. It returns this January (2020) for its 31st edition, with more action than ever before, planned on and off the course.

When founded in 1989, it was the first European Tour event to be staged in the Arabian peninsula, and currently, it is one out of the six major European Tour golfing events in UAE. The tournament is a part of a government program called “Dubai Golf”, which aims to develop both professional and casual golf tourism in Dubai. Promoted and organized by Golf in Dubai Falcon and Associates, the tournament is fondly referred to as the ‘Major of the Middle East,’ because of its longevity and a world-class field that it attracts every year. 

Since 1989, the tournament has seen 24 different winners from 13 different nations. Marking the 30th anniversary of the tournament, Bryson DeChambeau (United States) shot a tournament-record 24-under 264, taking home the winning trophy in 2019. The Desert Classic attracts some of the biggest names in professional golf such as- Tiger Woods who has won the championship twice, the three-time winner Ernie Els and the youngest champion Rory Mcllroy whose victory was at the age of 19.

The 31st edition of the Desert Classic will be held on January 2020, in Majlis Course at the Emirates Golf Club, Dubai. Tickets can be purchased online from the official tournament website (https://www.omegadubaidesertclassic.com/), and the bookings are now open for Omega Dubai Desert Classic 2020.

Things to remember while attending Dubai Desert Classic 2020

  • Persons aged 17 or above must have a ticket, and the entry is free for children aged 16 or under when accompanied by an adult with a valid ticket.
  • There is a special off of 10% for Thursday, 23 January, on Terrace Hospitality tickets. The Terrace Hospitality timings are from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and the viewing deck will be open from 3:00 PM.
  • Saturday, 25 January will be observed as Pink Saturday. Showing their support for breast cancer research and to raise awareness for this cause, visitors are encouraged to wear pink on this day. Saturday will become a special day for ladies with pink-themed F&B offerings, competitions and activities.
