Dom Pedro V Theatre is a historical theatre located at Largo de Santo Agostinho in São Lourenço. The first western-style theatre in East-Asia, it serves as a venue for music, dance and other kinds of performances and celebrations. The building of Dom Pedro V Theatre exhibits of plain neo-classical design. Apart from the theatre, it also features a ballroom, a study room and a billiard room. The interior is crafted with elegance and sophistication.
The theatre which exudes a romantic style is also known as ‘Macau Theatre’ in everyday Chinese. Built by the Portuguese in commemoration of King Pedra V in 1860, the theatre also served as the refugee shelter in World War 2 period.
