Penglipuran Village, Bali Overview

Penglipuran Village is one of the traditional hamlets in Bangli Regency that still upholds Balinese society's age-old Tri Hita Karana philosophy. You can walk the stone-paved lanes and explore the main village neighborhood lined by old-school thatched houses with arched gateways and manicured lawns. Trekking, cycling through the bamboo forests, and visiting the Pura Desa village temple are other top activities.

Witnessing the authentic Bali culture at its untarnished best is truly the main attraction here. Many of the village houses are open for visitors to enter and take a look at how a traditional Penglipuran household lives. If you visit on the day of a wedding, festival, puja, or any other ritual, you will be able to witness the vivid customs as well. Galungan Day, a Balinese festival to celebrate the victory of good over evil that occurs twice a year, is the best time to visit Penglipuran Village. Every house has ornate mandaps called penjor erected on the porch to welcome the ‘good’, creating a great spectacle all over the village. Set around 700m above sea level, the atmosphere here is cool and pleasant as well for an outdoor day trip.
