Sabah Food

Famous & Local Food of Sabah

Sabah is renowned for its food and it is one of the driving factors to visit Sabah. Sang Nyuk Mee is one of the most iconic dishes of Sabah. Loosely translated, it means ‘raw pork noodle’.  You can either have it as noodle soup or you can have it dry with sauce, referred to as Kon Lau. In noodle soup, they mix the sliced pork with the noodles and then serve it. On the other hand in Kon Lau, which is a more popular style, the noodle is served in soy sauce and pork oil which has to be mixed properly before eating. The Pork Soup is served separately and you can choose to take only meat or meat along with internal organs.

Another popular dish of Sabah is Curry Laksa which is noodles in coconut curry with an assortment of spices. It is full of vegetables and delicious tofu which are well-absorbed in the soup of the noodles. Another must try is Mee Soto which consists of noodles or rice in soup with vegetables and cow tripttres and tripes. Sabah is also famous for its seafood and Kadazan cuisine which must be given a try.
