Originally spelled as Tringganu or Trengganu and unofficially known as Darul Imam or the Abode of Faith in Allah, Terengganu is home to the largest Malays in Malaysia, who dominate the ethnic identity of the place. Housing numerous Malay villages, the Sultanate of Terengganu offers two of its most famous tourist magnets; Redang Island and Perhentian Island. This region usually attracts tourists who are longing for a laidback trip.

Although this region of Peninsular Malaysia is relatively underdeveloped, it has its own share of gorgeous landscapes and breathtaking adventure sports. Some of the most sought after tourist activities at Terengganue are kayaking, canoeing, scuba diving, snorkelling, mountain biking, 4WD adventure and rafting. A region belonging to the Terengganu river-bank, Terengganu is predominantly an Islamic state with a high Muslim population followed by Buddhist, Hindu and Christian followers.

The state’s festivities mostly revolve around indigenous celebrations such as Ramadan, Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and the Beach Festival. The food of Terengganu is an exotic affair. Some of the most-loved and much-delicious dishes include Keropok Lekor and Sata. It also serves plenty of the traditional Malay diet such as Nasi Lemak, Nasi Kerabu and Nasi Dagang.

Besides showcased artistry in food, Terengganu also owns a line of creativity. Batik, Songket weaving, Ratan weaving, wood carving, brassware and keris making are just some mentions of the land’s artistic skills. Although a low-key tourist destination, Terengganu can be counted on for the best!
