Best Time To Visit Phi Phi Islands

January is the driest month of the year, taking roughly a tenth of what falls in October. February sits just behind it.

This is the best window for the boat trips. Bamboo Island, Pileh Lagoon and the Viking Cave crossings are all at their calmest and clearest.

March is the hottest month of the year and still dry. April is hotter than it looks on paper and starts picking up showers towards the end.

Water is the hidden constraint in peak season. Phi Phi has no mains supply of its own and demand spikes through the dry months, so shortages are likeliest exactly when the island is busiest.

May is when the southwest monsoon settles in, and the rain keeps climbing from there through June and July.

These are the value months. Rain comes in bursts, the island is quiet and prices drop, but the ferry crossings get less predictable.

August to October is the wettest stretch of the year, and October is the worst of it. Boat trips get cancelled and the crossings from Phuket can be rough.

October is not a shoulder month. It sits at the top of the wet season rather than just before the dry one, which matters because it is often sold as a bargain.

Maya Bay reopened in 2022 under strict rules, and swimming there is no longer allowed. Boats moor outside the bay, visits are capped at about two thousand people a day, and each visitor gets roughly an hour ashore.

This is about expectations rather than dates. The beach itself is still there to see; the swim from the film is not possible in any month.

Phi Phi is on the Andaman side, so its wet season is the opposite of Thailand's Gulf islands. In September the Gulf is the drier coast; by November it is Phi Phi's turn.

Use that when your dates are fixed. For September or October, Koh Phangan is the better bet. For November or December, Hua Hin is close to rainless while the Gulf islands are at their annual worst.
