History of London

The Romans conquered England in 43 BC and named it as Londomium. The landscape of London was quite similar to one of those quintessential Roman colonies. The two main streets of the city intersected at the basilica and that is exactly the place where the Bank of England stands now. The Romans abandoned the empire and the Saxons entered around 5th century AD. London's population was blooming and various unique neighbourhoods were laid out. England was blended with France for the Norman conquest of 1066. London then emerged as the national capital of commerce especially for trading wool with other countries like Denmark. London also became a major religious centre during the 13th century . The city has survived numerous natural disasters and crisis situations. There was a great plague of 1665, followed by a great fire. London grew during the Edwardian and Victorian days during 1840 and 1914. London has experienced social, cultural as well as youth revolutions and evolved as one of the biggest cities in the world as it is now.
