Tundlikhel, Kathmandu Overview
Tundikhel is a large grass-covered parade ground in the centre of Kathmandu, running north to south between Ratna Park and Sahid Gate. Gorkhali soldiers once drilled here, and the ground still serves as a venue for military parades, festivals, concerts and horse races. The Mahakala temple sits on its western edge and the Lumari Ajima temple on its eastern edge. Locals call it the city's lungs and use it as a public park.
Once upon a time, this man-made plateau region was used by traders to sell off some goods before making their way to Tibet or India. The ground was also used for parade purposes by the Gorkha regiment. Nowadays, it is open for anyone to enjoy and relax.
