The Dubai Waterfront, locally referred to as the Waterfront, is one of the most ambitious projects commissioned in the world. Although the area is yet to be developed fully, visitors can find several entertainment areas offering leisure activities as well as several iconic landmarks of Dubai nearby.
The Dubai Waterfront was designed to include a number of canals as well as several man-made islands spanning the entire coastline of Dubai reaching into the Persian Gulf. Construction work on the project had been on hold since 2009 due to financial causes but work on Phase 1 of the project has been initiated once again with the developers expecting it to complete by 2020. The entire project is expected to take more than 8 to 10 years for completion with the real estate developers hoping to link the neighborhoods of Marina, Madinat Al Soor, the Resorts and the Boulevard to 8 distinct artificial islands.
