The Pettah Floating Market is a landmark in Colombo which opened to the public in the year 2014 and is at the Bastian Mawatha on the Beira Lake. The entrance is on the west side of the market area where there's a wood-carved flanking marked 'The Floating Market'.
The floating market is a series of pavilions constructed on the far end of the restored Beira lake between the Pettah bus station and the railway station. There are about ninety trade stalls and shops along the waters, with vendors selling fruits, vegetables and flowers on the wooden boats floating lazily on the lake.
Along with that, the open sky and gorgeous body of water give the whole area a very peaceful and lovely ambience. The region is beautifully constructed with wooden boards, grey floors and red terracotta tiles. Shopping here is quite an endurance. There are shops selling items ranging from local fruits and vegetables to garments and electronic items at affordable prices. There are several restaurants and eateries in the market area, which give an enjoyable atmosphere to dine in. It is a relaxed and breezy place in the middle of the busy city of Colombo where people can hangout for free.
