Dutch Hospital Shopping Precinct, Colombo Overview

One of Colombo’s most dynamic shopping centers lies within the historic site of Fort’s Old Dutch Hospital, constructed in 1677-1681. The shopping precinct houses some of Colombo’s best retail outlets, boutiques, and diners. Enjoy a rejuvenating massage at Spa Ceylon, shop at Barefoot, savor delicious Italian cuisine at Colombo Fort Cafe, or visit the city’s best seafood place, the Ministry of Crab.

Located close to the harbors, the site once served to look after the health of the Dutch East India Company officers. It was transformed into a shopping and dining district in 2011, but the colonial structure of it has been preserved and maintained. There are five wings on the premises with two courtyards, held up by massive teak beams. Standing just opposite World Trade Center, it is the oldest building in the Colombo Fort Area.
