Hesaraghatta, Bangalore Overview

Located at a distance of 18 km northwest to Bengaluru in Karnataka, Hesaraghatta Lake is a beautiful freshwater lake and manmade reservoir. Constructed in the year 1894, across the Arkavathy River, the reservoir was built to cater to the water needs of the city - for drinking, irrigation and other purposes. The spot is thronged by a large number of avifauna species that migrate to the place.

Sprawling over an area of over 1000 acres, the Hesaraghatta Lake is a popular getaway from the city. Although the lake stays dry for most parts of the year now, the green grasslands in the vicinity make up for it. A large number of tourists and locals visit here to escape the cacophony of the city and relax in peace.

Tips

  1. Do not litter the place. Carry your waste along.
  2. Carry your own food and drinks as the place hardly has any shops.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Hesaraghatta Lake is during the rainy season when the lake is soaked in water and the surroundings are lush green after a shower. Otherwise, in other seasons (also, most times of the year), the lake remains dried up and you may only find a dry river bed.
