The Kalka-Shimla Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage narrow-gauge line running about 96 km between Kalka and Shimla, passing through over 100 tunnels and nearly 1,000 bridges as it climbs through pine and deodar forests. Rather than the full route, many visitors ride a shorter stretch, such as Shimla to Barog and back, since it still covers the scenic tunnels and viaducts. Trains range from the basic Kalka Shimla Passenger to the more comfortable Shivalik Deluxe Express with chair cars and meal service.
The journey was carved through the abundance of nature in Himachal Pradesh during the British rule due to which the Kalka Shimla Toy toy train is bound to take you back to a completely different era in history and through one of the most scenic railway journeys in India. The 5 and a half-hour toy train journey provides special services and is must-do when visiting the mountainside of the North.
