Kufri Tourism

Kufri, located at a distance of 20km from the main city of Shimla, is a popular tourist destination known for its skii slopes, Kufri Zoo and as starting point of treks. Founded by the British in 1819, Kufri became an important tourist destination in the last few years. The main tourist part of Kufri is located on Mahasu peak at a height of 2,720 metres above sea level and travellers have to either hike or take a pony from the parking lot to reach Kufri.

Mahasu Peak and Fagu Valley are the main attractions in Kufri but are accessible via pony ride. Once you reach the top after a pony ride, you would want to enjoy your time playing with snow or clicking photographs. There are a few photo points and the view makes up for the climb. You can also enjoy go-karting at the Kufri Fun World, which has the highest Go-Karting track in the world.

You can come back to the parking lot by a pony and head to the Indira Tourist Park by afternoon after grabbing some lunch. Or you can also head to Kufri Zoo from there.

Kufri along with Chail are generally covered by most tourists visiting Shimla and are covered in most Shimla packages. Other destinations close to Kufri and Shimla are Narkanda, Mashobra, Tattapani & Naldehra.

- Kufri is a small district known mainly for its winter adventures and treks. Be careful with children while going on mules and horses, as the path is slippery.
- ALWAYS bargain. Kufri is a huge t (Read More)ourist spot, and the horse/mule/yak owners and shopkeepers, photographers might try to dupe you by quoting exorbitantly. Bargain everywhere.
- The Kufri Fun World does lack some security measures, keep a track of your children while they are on the rides. Carry ample of thick woolen clothing, the temperatures dip way below 0 in peak winter seasons.
- When on a trek, make sure you are carrying all essentials with you, including food and water. Longer treks need more things to be carried, prepare beforehand.
- Even cab rates are flexible, do bargain.
