Hadsar Trek, Pune Overview

Hadsar is a hill fort in the state of Maharashtra. It is situated at an elevation of 3200 feet from the ground in the district of Pune. Within the fort there are massive tunnel like entrances built in the Mughal style.

There are neat, rock-cut steps which lead up to these twin gates. Besides, there are cisterns of water and water tanks within the sparse fortifications. There is a Shiva temple atop the fort and a pond facing it. The citadel also has vast underground chambers which were used probably as storerooms. The Shiva temple has stone carvings of Ganesh and Hanuman on its corners.

Trek Routes

After reaching the base village, a 10 minute climb takes us to a vast plateau from where the fort is clearly visible. The direction of the climb can be asked from any local villager. We may need to consult a guide from here as the route from this point onward can get a bit confusing. With the help of a guide, we would reach another plateau smaller than the previous one. A traverse must be climbed in order to reach the neat, rock-cut steps leading up to the fort. Once we've reached at the end of the steps, we need to take a left turn. We then come across twin mughal style entrances facing us. As soon as we cross the entrances, we step atop the plateau which is also the top of the fort. The second route begins from the point where a well is situated on tge way to the fort. Local villagers can lead us to the well. We need to walk for another 15 minutes along the left side of the plateau before we come across a narrow path between two small hills. We need to keep walking in a straight direction in order to arrive at the fort .

Water availability

Water cisterns are available within the fort, but the water in them is not potable. It is strongly advisable to carry your own water supply with you.
