Satsuma led the overthrow of the shogunate in 1868, and this museum explains how and why, using animatronic dramas of Saigo Takamori and Okubo Toshimichi that are more effective than they sound. Do it early in a visit: almost everything else in Kagoshima, from Sengan-en to Shiroyama, is a footnote to this story.
