Torinji Temple, Ishigaki Island Overview
Founded in 1614 and still the southernmost Zen temple in Japan, which is the fact worth knowing before you go. Inside the gate stand a pair of wooden Deva kings carved in 1737, designated cultural properties and among the oldest surviving objects in the Yaeyamas. Small, free and five minutes from the market, so it costs nothing to fold in.
