Miyara Dunchi, Ishigaki Island Overview
Built in 1819 for a local Ryukyuan official and the only surviving house of the samurai class anywhere in the Ryukyu islands, with a coral-rock garden laid out behind it. It is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. Nothing else in the Yaeyamas shows how the ruling class actually lived, which is why it earns a place over the larger but more generic museums in town.
