Exhibits at Hong Kong Museum of Art

Chinese Antiquities Exhibition Hall - presents the opportunity to travel through history right from the Neolithic Period to the 20th century. One may understand some of the first pieces to be appreciated as art through an array of over 4000 pieces. These consist of ancient Chinese ceramics, embroidery and clothing along with samples of bronzes, wooden and bamboo carvings, and delicate glassware among others.

Chinese Fine Art Exhibition Hall - with over 5000 works of art this exhibit presents the most exquisite of paintings and carefully preserved calligraphies, which can be traced back to the period of 1964. Guangdong painting, Guangdong calligraphy, Lingnan painting, and modern Chinese painting are the major categories of work in this exhibition hall.

Historical Pictures Exhibition Hall - A literal blast from the past with over 1200 relics dating back to the 18th and 19th century, which display the journey of growth and development of the city of Hong Kong. This story of a simple fishing lifestyle to an urban paradise is dictated through several paintings, photos and maps of the city and its people.

Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware

Situated in Hong Kong Park, this extension of the Hong Kong art Museum is recognized to be the first of its kind in the entire world, making it a unique place to visit. Several exhibits are known to be a donation of Dr. Luo Guixiang, an individual who familiarized the use of Chinese soy milk and was an avid teapot collector. One may also view exhibits with European and Japanese influences to a smaller extent. Ceramic teaware consisting of notes, tea bowls, cups, teapots, and cover bowls are the main item of attraction visible in a majority of exhibits.

Tips

1. Purchase of weekly entry tickets are recommended in the case of an intention to visit multiple connecting museums.
2. Avoid photography inside the museum.
3. Relevant books, CDs and other memoirs can be purchased on the first floor.

How To Reach Hong Kong Museum of Art

MTR - Travel along the West rail Line and stop at East Tsim Sha Tsui Station. Take Exit J or L6.

Bus -
1) Take the bus no. 1A, 1, 2, 6, 7, 8A, 8P, or 9, and stop at Cultural Center.
2) Take the bus no. H1, 203C, 208, 219X, 270A, 270S, 271, N216, N271, or N281 and stop at the Peninsula Hotel.
After getting off at respective destinations by bus, walk toward south around 5 minutes to the Art Museum.

Ferry - Get aboard the Star Ferry at Central or Wan Chai and get off at Tsim Sha Tsui. then walk to the museum at a distance of 10 minutes.
