Jockey Club Archive & Museum

The Jockey Club Archive & Museum was established in 1996 and exhibits the history, development and significance of horse-racing in Hong Kong. It is situated on the 2nd floor of the Happy Valley Stand and features a total of four galleries namely: The Origin of Our Horses, Shaping Sha Tin, Understanding Horses, and Thematic Exhibitions.

One may observe traditional horse migration routes; marvel at the construction plans of the racecourse; take a closer look at the skeleton of Hong Kong’s three-time title-holder, Silver Lining; learn about the history the Jockey Club and associated charitable organizations. Trophies, certifications and horse-grooming equipment are exhibited in order to give visitors an unparalleled insight into the world of horse-racing. Visitors can access the mini-cinema that displays short videos of past races and purchase memoirs at an attached souvenir shop.

Facilities at Happy Valley Racecourse

General Stand - an area preferred by locals to watch the race at track-level. One is as near to the race as possible and can easily access refreshment amenities.

Second Floor Terrace - an area that gives a more expansive view of the racecourse and the finish line in particular with comfortable seating arrangements and a designated betting area. Visitors are required to pay an additional fee of HKD 20 in order to access the Second Floor Terrace.

Member's Enclosure - An area for spectators who are members which cannot be accessed by the general public. It includes entry into betting halls, a parade area and the finishing post area. One may become a member by purchasing a badge at the price of HKD 100.

Come Horseracing Tour- An exclusive opportunity which includes facilities for comfortable transport, an International dinner and beverages of choice, a tour of the racecourse, access to the Member’s Enclosure and a first-hand experience of betting where you are posed with the opportunity of trying you luck.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Happy Valley Racecourse is during horse-racing season, of course! This period lasts from September to June and may extend to early July. Races are usually held on Wednesday nights.

Tips

1. Wear smart casual attire. Denim, shorts, sneakers and flip-flops are not allowed.
2. Entry is not permitted to any individual below the age of 18.
3. Get your tickets in advance on major racing days.

How To Reach Happy Valley Racecourse

Get aboard MTR Island Line, stop at Causeway Bay station, and then take Exit A - Times Square. Walk to Wong Nai Chung Road for a duration a 15 minutes.
Take bus 1, 1P, 8X, 10, 19, 37B, 37X, 72A, 72, 75, 76, 77, 90, 96, 97, 117 or 592, and stop at Happy Valley Racecourse station.
Get on the tram marked 'Happy Valley' in north of HK Island to arrive at the racecourse.
