Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong Overview

Lan Kwai Fong, commonly referred to as LKF, is the hub of drinking, clubbing and partying in Hong Kong. Home to over 90 restaurants and bars and conveniently located in Central Hong Kong, the L-shaped square of streets is one of the most popular nightlife spots in Hong Kong.

Lan Kwai Fong hosts several festivals such as Halloween, Christmas and New Year while organizing its very own beer festival. LKF also gave rise to Hong Kong’s street culture where several talented performers can be witnessed displaying their skills at guitar and singing. Lan Kwai Fong Attractions

Pre World War 2, LKF was designated to hawkers who dominated the area. However, post the 1980s, the street underwent a revolution and gradually emerged as a hangout spot for several white-collar workers and foreigners. This bustling district of Hong Kong provides quite a large variety of experience which makes it so popular amongst travellers.

Bars: The most prominent aspect of Lan Kwai Fong’s attraction is its bars. Los Sotano and Foxglove are amongst the most reputed bars in the street for their ambience which makes them crowded at all times of the day. Foxglove is famous for its live jazz and interior ambience while Los Sotano is renowned for its tequila-based drinks.

Art Galleries: LKF is home to two of the most eminent art galleries in Hong Kong. Grotto Fine art and Tang Contemporary Art houses some of the most creative artworks on exhibitions. The former gallery is famous for its emerging talent while the latter happens to be one of the most established in the business.

Fringe Club: The fringe club is known for its marvellous live performances. Ranging from stand-up sketches to musical evenings, this club has it all. The performances take place between 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM every day.

Shopping Centres: The Shanghai Tang Mansion and Sasa Store in Lan Kwai Fong are any shopaholics paradise. They offer a wide variety of products ranging from cosmetics to fashion accessories to traditional Chinese ware.

Best Time to Visit

  • Lan Kwai Fong is the celebration hub for several festivals including Halloween and New Year’s Eve. During Halloween, people dressed up in costumes and as characters line up the streets.
  • LKF beer festival is very well reputed for its charm as well where there are tonnes of different kinds of beers to grab a taste of. The humongous crowd during such occasions puts the street at a literal standstill.
  • It is recommended to visit the street on weekends (especially Friday) as one can catch a glimpse of various street performances and also avail various weekend discounts.

How to Reach Lan Kwai Fong

MTR: Lan Kwai Fong is a 5-minute walk from Exit D2 from Central station on the ‘Tsuen Wan’ line. Walk along theatre lane towards D'Aguilar Street.

Bus: Public bus number 12M, 13 and 40M is ideal for reaching LKF
